"Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit,"--yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that." "
"If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that" is resounding with particular strength. Life changes so quickly, and thanks be to the Lord for the opportunities He provides. Sometimes He gives us new jobs, new schools, new homes, and new friends, replete with their own new challenges and tears, but He always provides old lessons to learn again and again. This time, I have been learning not to make plans by my own wisdom.
I thought I had everything worked out to move to the Birmingham area in just a few weeks. I had roommates, a job, and plans to go to school next year. I was so excited to be closer to all of my friends down there, and especially to become a part of the wonderful church family at Kimberly. I thought all these things were answers to my prayers.
I have recently discovered that most likely, I will not be moving to Birmingham within the next couple of years. I am now planning to attend graduate school at WKU in Bowling Green, Kentucky. That's not what I originally wanted or hoped, but I sincerely think that it is the answer to many prayers.
I think I have learned my lesson: I shouldn't say anything I expect to do without saying, and meaning, that my hopes and plans will only be accomplished if it is the Lord's will. I'm sorry I didn't truly recognize that before. I am also learning to trust Him more. Growing hurts, but it is so good for you.
Prayers are appreciated.
So now, if the Lord wills, I am going on to graduate school. I plan to study history at WKU, and I'm in the process of looking for an apartment and a job in addition to the assistantship there.
"Oh life, with your colorful surprises." --Sufjan Stevens.
